Must be fun to cut open this wrapping and have a tree spring out!

This is an incredibly beautiful place. The stone texture of the building and the colors draw my attention.

I don't think I've seen wrapped trees before, except at Christmas.

Aivan ihana kuva. Olisi pitänyt varmaana kertoa miksi puut on paketissa näille muunmaalaisille.

Love the graphic elements of today's photo! The covering of trees and statues reminds us of how cold it gets in Finland!

The trees or shrubs are covered just before the start of the spring due to the spring sunshine's "burning" effect. It isn't done because of the winter cold. It is done to sensitive evergreen plants (Those planted the year before or otherwise sensitive to too much of sunrays).

That "sunburn" risk develops due to the yet frozen soil, when at the same time early spring's warm sunshine makes leaves or needles evaporate too much water out of the plant and the plant cannot take yet the needed replacing water from the frozen soil. Therefore the plant is at risk for dying in drought. That kind of shadowing makes the problem less severe.

As soon as the soil melts along the advance of spring the problem disappears and the wrappings can be taken off.
